The Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) have released a circular in which it states that under special circumstances crew of cargo vessels can be embarked and disembarked. Examples of such circumstances
are:

  • A | The crew has served his/her maximum time on board and no further extension of the employment contract is granted by the flag state; or
  • B | Compassionate grounds e.g. death of family member; or
  • C | The crew is no longer medically fit to work onboard the ship.

Embarking or disembarking crew in Singapore requires prior approval from the MPA.
